Alma 7:17 "And now because your faith is strong concerning that... which I have spoken, great is my joy," I love that he says that his joy is great because of others. This is a true principal of the gospel. We will find the most joy from focusing on those around us. As college students it can be very easy to focus on ourselves always and the things that we love to do. The principle that Alma lived and taught is that true joy comes from giving to and serving those around us.
This week at one point I was very focused on myself and all of the things that were going wrong in my life and how I was a hard day. I was thinking about how I didn't really feel happy in that moment. It seemed to linger with me all day long. I started to ask myself why I wasn't feeling happy, when usually I do feel happy. I then tried to change my mindset and give more to my wife and those around me and I learned that I was happier when I was giving and serving her and others. It seems like we have heard it all our lives but it is true that you can start to feel complete and joyful when you start to let go of yourself. College students can learn this by giving to their neighbors or trying specifically to make someone else day better. Whatever it is there are always different ways that we can each serve others and find true happiness.
