I thought about King Benjamin and the way that he showed true humility in all that he did. He is a wise leader and ruled out of love and patience for the people! He constantly told them that all he was doing was for them not for himself. This is a prominent example to me when I look at the scriptures and see that those in positions of power are often driven by the idea of more power and more for themselves. Selfishness becomes the dominating characteristic of the ruler. In Mosiah 2:12 He states that he has suffered for their sakes. That is true humble leadership in seeing it as a burden and not as an honor or crown.
The people loved and listened to him because they knew that he was someone who loved them and worked for their well being. The people we are called to serve are the same. They will turn their backs to us if we are prideful and come off as someone who is more worried about their own image. Where as when we are patient and willing to give all of our hearts to those around us we are blessed beyond measure. Humility is one of the Christlike attributes that I admire most in others. It is so hard to truly acquire, but it is so welcoming when it is there. It is a beautiful thing to have.
